Travel to Gotland
Gotland is Sweden's largest island and is a popular holiday spot for both Swedes and foreigners. Its unusual nature, characterised by sea stacks (vertical rock formations shaped by the sea), as well as its long beaches and the medieval town of Visby, help Gotland attract hundreds of thousands of visitors each year. Like any island paradise, you’re never far from velvety beaches, mighty cliffs, beautiful pebble beaches and lagoons of shimmering turquoise water. It’s easy to find your very own secret swimming spot. And anyone who is interested in history will not be disappointed - The Great City Wall surrounds all of medieval Visby and is the best preserved city wall in northern Europe. The construction of the limestone wall started in 1250 and was completed in 1288. It was further extended during the 14th century. The wall is 3.6 km long and originally had 29 towers, 27 of which are still standing today.
