"Visby is the largest city on the largest island off the east coast of Sweden. The island, Gotland, is accessible only by boat or plane, and this isolation gives the island and the natives a spirit not found anywhere else in Sweden. Gotland is an ancient land, whose beginning dates back to pre history. Natives of Gotland speak a dialect of Swedish stemming from their own native language called Gutnish. Gotland's rich past is full of tales of traders and seafarers, knights and privateers, kings and warring countries. There are 94 medieval churches on Gotland some dating back to 1150 AD and most are still in use. The ancient walls still stand and surround the old part of the city. Visby gives the modern visitor a taste of what living in the middle Ages must have been like. Gotland has many activities over the summer, including festivals and recreation of ancient local games. Anytime is the right time to visit what has become one of our favorite courses in Sweden."
